Description
A Silky Smooth Wine from Pomerol
With a vineyard of 3.67 ha in an exceptional terroir, the Chateau Vray Croix de Gay is one of the top estates of the renowned Pomerol appellation, whose enormous potential and unique style has become world-renowned.
The strength of Chateau Vray Croix de Gay lies in its vineyard. Located in the heart of the Pomerol gravel plateau, on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region, the estate’s 9 plots are subdivided into micro plots and spread over 2 vineyards. One of these is located alongside Chateau La Fleur behind Petrus, and the other is set just in front of the Chateau Trotanoy.
While the 2017 vintage presented great challenges that will not soon be forgotten, the vineyard of Chateau Vray Croix de Gay was fortunately spared by the frost occurring at the end of April 2017.
The extreme care taken in the micro-plot selections, combined with the biodynamic practices employed in the vineyard, which is also currently undergoing organic conversion, along with the careful winemaking carried out by Jean-Claude Berrouet, the former winemaker of Petrus, result in the consistent excellence of this estate. The new vintage expresses the best qualities of the greatest wines of Pomerol.
With a blend dominated by Merlot (87%), and complemented by Cabernet Franc (13%), the Chateau Vray Croix de Gay 2017 offers a beautiful profile, displaying the typical characteristics of this vintage.
When tasted, the wine reveals a superb aromatic bouquet, emphasizing the purity of fruit. The palate seduces with its fantastic structure, guided by a silky frame in which the well-rounded Merlot settles voluptuously, maintaining a perfect balance. The Chateau Vray Croix de Gay 2017 promises to be a very nice vintage for this great Pomerol estate.
