Description
A Saint-Julien wine imbued with refinement and balance
The estate
Château Léoville Poyferré, a Second Classified Growth of the Médoc in 1855 whose origins date back to the early 17th century, is one of the most prestigious estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. Masterfully run by the Cuvelier family and neighboring illustrious estates such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Poyferré benefits from a terroir renowned for its lean Garonne gravel soils, ideal for the vineyard's development. In a perpetual quest for perfection, plot-by-plot vinifications are overseen by oenologist Michel Rolland, in order to gently extract the most authentic expression of each grape variety and each plot. The wines of Château Léoville Poyferré dazzle with their elegance, depth, balance, and power.
The vineyard
The Château Léoville Poyferré 2023 is a Saint-Julien wine produced from a 60-hectare vineyard, whose vines, averaging 43 years old, are planted on Mindel gravel terraces with clay-sand subsoils.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested in small crates, the grape bunches are rigorously sorted to keep only the finest quality berries. Plot-by-plot vinification takes place in temperature-controlled, truncated conical stainless steel vats. Plot selection, cold pre-fermentation maceration before alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The 18 to 20-month aging process takes place in French oak barrels (80% new, 20% one-wine).
Blend
This Château Léoville Poyferré 2023 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (62%), Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (4%), and Petit Verdot (2%).
