Decanter

Deep ruby in hue, Le Crock 2024 shows a vibrant bouquet of blood orange zest, smoky undertones, and dark fruits. On the palate, it offers a round and creamy texture, with polished, almost imperceptible tannins. While the mid-palate might lack some depth, the wine compensates with a fresh, citrusy finish and subtle bitterness. Overall, it presents an elegant and classic profile, though slightly austere at the moment, expressing the quintessence of Saint-Estèphe. 5% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

Flowers, garrigue, tobacco, and currants define the character here. Medium-bodied, quite fresh and vibrant, the forward, soft-textured palate finishes with crisp, chewy, peppery red berries. The wine blends 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. Drink from 2027–2038. 89–91 pts

Le Figaro Vin

A floral, delicate nose with fresh red and purple fruits. On the palate, the texture is exquisitely soft, as caressing as a newborn’s hair. The mouthfeel is supple and easy to drink, leaving a delectable chocolate note on the finish.

Description

A Balanced Saint-Estèphe Wine with Silky Tannins

The Estate

Located in Saint-Estèphe, the Château Le Crock has been owned by the Cuvelier family since the beginning of the 20th century, who also own the Léoville Poyferré and Moulin Riche estates. Managed since 2018 by Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, the estate is recognized for its wines and obtained the status of Exceptional Cru Bourgeois in 2020.

The Vineyard

Located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the vineyard of Château Le Crock extends over 32 hectares of vines resting on soils composed of Garonne gravels on a sandy-clay subsoil. This geological composition ensures optimal natural drainage and regulated water supply to the vines. The vines are on average 49 years old.

Vinification and Aging

Manual harvest in crates, followed by a rigorous double sorting, first on foot then on bunches. The grapes are then vinified semi-parcel by parcel in thermo-regulated stainless steel and concrete vats. The alcoholic fermentation is preceded by a bioprotection with non-saccharomyces yeasts, then carried out with selected yeasts. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels, followed by aging for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.

Blend

The Château Le Crock 2024 is the result of a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon providing structure and aging potential, 40% Merlot giving roundness and suppleness, 12% Cabernet Franc adding finesse and aromatic complexity, and 5% Petit Verdot contributing to the tannic richness and intense color of the wine.
