Description
A complex and well-balanced Haut-Medoc red wine
The estate
With origins dating back to the 12th century, Chateau La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest estates in the Medoc region. The estate takes its name from its tower, built in 1120 and surrounded by a moat. In 1407, vines were planted at the estate. Owned by Bernard Magrez, this 1855 Classified Growth belongs to the elite wine estates of the Haut-Medoc.
The vineyard
Chateau La Tour Carnet 2021 is a Haut-Medoc wine that stems from a 164-hectare vineyard located in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Medoc. The vines, which are 26 years old on average, are planted on Gunzian gravel soils upon a clay and limestone base.
The vintage
The warm, wet winter preceded a cool, rainy spring marked by frost. The summer is cool and humid.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvesting. Sorting in the vineyard and on a vibrating table before destemming and optical sorting. The harvested grapes are then cooled by spraying them with liquid nitrogen. Vatting by gravity flow. Vinification in small wooden and stainless steel vats. Pre-fermentation maceration for 2 to 5 days in cold conditions (8°C). Full fermentation (in new barrels) of selected lots (7%). Post-fermentation maceration for around10 days at 28-29°C. Malolactic fermentation in barrels for some plots. Aged for 16 months in barrels (33% new and 33% second fill), and in vats (33%).
The blend
Merlot (54%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (46%).
