Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2025
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a deep ruby robe with purple highlights, dense and bright, reflecting a generous yet carefully managed extraction.
Nose
The bouquet opens on a pronounced floral register, with rose petals, peony, and violet, followed by red and black fruit aromas of cherry, plum, and blackberry. Sweet spices, a touch of mint, and a subtle graphite-like minerality complete this complex and layered profile.
Palate
The palate is silky and powerful at once, built on fine-grained, polished tannins that bring both structure and elegance. The mid-palate shows real depth and energy, while the long, pure finish stays fresh and precise, echoing the floral and fruit notes perceived on the nose.
Food and wine pairings
Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2025 pairs beautifully with roasted poultry and game, such as roasted duckling or venison in a rich sauce. It also shows great affinity with grilled red meats, including lamb chops, where its fine tannins and aromatic depth find a natural match.
Serving and cellaring
Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2025 is built for long-term cellaring, with an aging potential that extends through the mid-2050s, allowing the wine to gain complexity while preserving its freshness and fruit expression over time.
A Pomerol from Bordeaux's Right Bank, Between Floral Finesse and Structure
The Estate
Château La Fleur-Pétrus takes its name from two historic plots, "La Fleur" and "Pétrus," united under this identity in the eighteenth century on the Pomerol plateau, in Bordeaux. In 1950, the property became the first vineyard acquisition of Jean-Pierre Moueix, founder of the négociant house Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. Today, the estate is owned by the Société Civile du Château La Fleur-Pétrus and led by Christian and Édouard Moueix, representing the second and third generations of the family. The vineyard spans 18.7 hectares and is recognized as one of the leading properties of the Pomerol plateau.
The Vineyard
The vineyard lies on some of the highest ground of the Pomerol plateau, between 33 and 38 meters in elevation, directly adjacent to Château Lafleur and across from Petrus. The soils combine ancient gravel with deep clay, resting on an iron-rich subsoil locally known as "crasse de fer," which gives the wines their characteristic blend of floral refinement and tannic density. The vines average 35 years of age, and the estate is HVE 3 certified, reflecting a sustainable, closely monitored approach to viticulture.
The Vintage
The 2025 vintage in Pomerol was marked by warm and dry conditions throughout the growing season. This climate called for careful vineyard management to preserve freshness in the grapes. Harvest took place over a three-week window, from September 1 to September 19, allowing each parcel to be picked at its optimal point of ripeness despite the warmth of the season.
Winemaking and aging
For Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2025, grapes were harvested by hand and underwent a double sorting, both manual and optical, to retain only the finest berries. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, with gentle, carefully monitored extraction. The wine was then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new, allowing the fruit and floral character of the vintage to remain at the forefront while gaining structure and complexity.
Grape Varieties
Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2025 is a blend of 97% merlot and 3% petit verdot, with no cabernet franc used in this particular vintage.
