Château La Fleur Pétrus 2024

Medium-bodied ruby red; open and complex on the nose, with fine spice notes—cinnamon and caraway—dark berries, plums and floral hints; on the palate, elegant, still shaped by the ageing, with delicate ripe fruit and silky tannins; the wine builds intensity while remaining elegant, spicy and dark-fruited, with outstanding balance. It doesn’t quite reach the level of the top vintages, but will be enjoyable early on.

Floral and fragranced on the nose. Smooth but quite tannic and creamy, this is it a little sombre with the initial tangy acidity fading into the background relatively quickly and more of a focus on the clean fruit which accentuate the darkly spiced elements of liquorice and clove. It’s well built, and serious, less fun than some but still with a solid frame and ripe fruit adding a touch of seduction. Just a bit oaky right now. Ageing 50% new oak barrels for 16-18 months.

On the floral side, with chocolate-coated black raspberries, espresso, and cherry aromatics that are all over the place. Soft and refined, the fruits are sweet and polished, with more of those chocolatey black raspberries in the vibrant finish. You can enjoy this with pleasure with only a few years in the cellar. But give it a few more years if you want all those secondary notes to develop, and this will be just great in your glass. The wine blends 99.5% Merlot and 0.05% Petit Verdot. A captivating depth of red aromas, aromatic herbs and wild berries, with mysterious nuances. On the palate, the texture is melt-in-the-mouth, almost hypnotic, always defined by the bright red fruit. It is at once dense, sensual and energetic.

La Fleur Pétrus gradually reveals itself through many nuances, with a range that moves from vegetal notes to ripe black berries. In a way, very Bordeaux—almost classic. On the palate, the wine focuses on finesse. It is slender and supported by well-integrated tannins that provide a solid foundation as well as energy. I think ageing will give it a bit more substance. The finish is convincing thanks to its persistence and aromatic support. One to follow as it develops!

The nose is beautifully elegant and complex, offering depth, aromatic intensity, a lovely infusion-like character and plenty of energy. It reveals notes of blueberry and concentrated blackcurrant, with a lighter touch of violet, alongside hints of small wild berries, wild pepper from Île de Ré, and a subtle suggestion of peony, camphor and toast. The palate is beautifully crafted—fresh and mineral—showing suppleness, indulgence, precision and a rounded feel within the freshness. It displays a certain fruit depth, a touch of elegant austerity, and a fleshy fruit character. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of plump, juicy blackberry, small black fruits and, more lightly, black plum, combined with touches of small red fruits edging toward an elegant roasted nuance, camphor and mocha, as well as fine hints of tobacco, bergamot and wild pepper from Île de Ré, plus a hint of refined mineral character. Good length. The tannins are supple, elegant and refined. There is a certain creamy texture in freshness and a deep, dark intensity on the palate. Good cocoa-tinged persistence.

Gently toasted cedar and sandalwood, violet, lilac, powdery rose, plush fruits, savoury in the spirit of the vintage but with texture and even generosity, and velvety tannins. A great job from La Fleur-Petrus, seriously impressive and one to look out for - my wine of the Moueix stable in 2024. 50% new oak. Harvest 17 to 28 September, no chaptilisation, around 20% down on yield from a usual year.

Deep, intense purple color. A highly aromatic, refined, fruity and subtle nose, with a violet fragrance rarely encountered before. Delicate on entry, very perfumed through the mid-palate, the wine caresses the palate with great elegance and a touch of oak. Then, on the finish, the softness, length and class return in full. Blend: 99.5% Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot.
