Decanter

From the team behind La Gaffeliere in St Emilion, this estate has streamlined its approach a little in recent years, still with plenty of Pomerol swagger but less dominated by oak than in its early days. A lovely choice in 2019 for an enticing, highly drinkable Pomerol with sweet black fruits and firm yet fresh tannin and acidity. Those tannins build across the palate, and by the finish you get a block of chocolate and liquorice, suggesting it will age well and deepen in expression.

[ Primeurs 2019 Scores: 94-95 ] 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc make up the blend of this 2019, the latter variety lending an airy quality to the finish that underscores the mouth’s silky, juicy twists and turns. A wine that is both sensual and refined.

Dark, intense, and beautiful color. Very aromatic nose with ripe, subtle fruit. Succulent palate, particularly hedonistic, with a melting, fragrant body and a fine, silky richness. Lovely juicy finish that’s impossible to spit out. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 14.5% - pH: 3.6. Tiny production of 2,400 bottles.

Un vin de Pomerol frais et équilibré

Le domaine

L'histoire du Château La Connivence est avant tout une histoire d'amitié avec trois amis amateurs de vin qui décident de créer un "très bon vin". La superbe appellation Pomerol devient alors le berceau de cette connivence qui unit les trois propriétaires : Johan Micoud, ancien footballeur international, Matthieu Chalmé, ancien joueur des Girondins de Bordeaux, et Alexandre de Malet Roquefort, propriétaire du Château La Gaffelière à Saint-Émilion.

Le vignoble

Un vignoble jardin, le Château La Connivence est un véritable petit joyau : 1,40 hectares situés sur un très grand terroir de Pomerol, terre emblématique du merlot, le cépage phare qui couvre 65% des terres du domaine. Le château a également choisi de planter du cabernet franc, qui représente 35% du vignoble. Sur ce terroir de graviers combinant des graviers gras, des graviers fins et des sols sablo-argileux, les 3 amis sentent immédiatement que les conditions parfaites sont réunies pour pouvoir produire un très grand vin rouge de Pomerol. Afin de préserver ce précieux terroir, les vignes sont exclusivement travaillées à la main et gérées en utilisant une agriculture raisonnée.
