Description
The aromatic finesse and delicacy of a red wine from Listrac-Medoc
The estate
A magnificent property located in the Listrac-Medoc appellation, Chateau Fonreaud is one of the essential references of the Medoc. Owned by the Chanfreau family and classified as a Cru Bourgeois Superieur, Chateau Fonreaud seduces wine-lovers with the signature style of its fruity and spicy wines, which evolve beautifully upon a very gourmet palate and promise a remarkable potential for age. This property takes its name from a legend, according to which King Henry II stopped here once to quench his thirst. The term "Font-Réaux" means "Royal Fountain".
The vineyard
The Chateau Fonreaud vineyard extends over the high gravel terrace of the Medoc. Located between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyard boasts a privileged location and benefits from a unique microclimate. The vines are planted in gravels soils resting upon a clay-limestone base, dating from the Oligocene period. This terroir allows for excellent drainage and an ideal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
The mild spring conditions favored rapid and even flowering. The rainy days at the end of June ensured sufficient water reserves before an extremely dry summer. The well-drained clay-limestone subsoils made it possible to avoid any water stress in the vineyard. Autumn was marked by ideal weather conditions with rain in mid-September allowing for optimal maturity to be achieved and an alternation of hot, sunny days with cool nights providing ideal conditions for refining the tannins.
Vinification and aging
The vinification is carried out in semi-underground cellars with thermoregulated tanks (tapered stainless steel vats, inverted tapered stainless steel vats and concrete tanks). Optimal extraction of the fruit is favored during alcoholic fermentation. Aging is carried out in barrels (30% of which are new oak barrels).
The blend
The Chateau Fonreaud 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (42%) and Petit Verdot (3%).
The tasting
The Chateau Fonreaud 2020 seduces with its beautiful garnet color, its silky structure and its dense, lively, round and refined palate. A vintage delicately blending balance and fruitiness.
