Description
The estate
Château Fonréaud is located in the Listrac-Médoc appellation and is one of the Médoc's leading properties. Owned by the Chanfreau family and classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Fonréaud seduces wine lovers with the style of its fruity and spicy wines, which evolve into a full and flavoursome mouthfeel and promise to age beautifully over time. This estate takes its name from a legend according to which King Henry II made a halt at the estate to quench his thirst. The term "Font-Réaux" means "Royal Fountain".
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Fonréaud spreads over the high gravel terrace of the Médoc. Situated between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, the 32-hectare vineyard enjoys a privileged location and benefits from a unique microclimate. The vines are planted on Pyrenean gravel soils upon a limestone base, which allows for an excellent drainage and a good ripening of the grapes, giving rise to great Listrac wines.
