Tasting Characteristics and Advice for Château-Figeac 2023

Tasting

Nose
Complex and elegant, the nose exudes fruity (blackcurrant, strawberry) and floral fragrances.

Palate
Underpinned by fine minerality and the characteristic salinity of the gravel soils, the palate delights with its balance and its spicy, floral aromas that extend to a fresh, persistent finish.

The Liveliness and Richness of a Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" of Saint-Émilion

The Estate

Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, Château-Figeac embodies the excellence of Bordeaux’s great wines worldwide. Château-Figeac has been owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years. On September 8, 2022, Château-Figeac was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" in the Classification of Saint-Émilion Grands Crus.

The Vineyard

A renowned benchmark among the great wines of Saint-Émilion, Château-Figeac enjoys an exceptional location on the western edge of the appellation, bordering Pomerol. The estate’s vineyard sits on three distinct gravel croupes. Respect for biodiversity, flora, and fauna lies at the heart of the estate’s concerns.

The Wine

2023 is the 130th vintage for the Manoncourt family.

The Vintage

Despite significant rainfall, the mild conditions at the start of the year encouraged an early budburst two weeks ahead of schedule, and a frost event on April 4th and 5th had no impact on the vineyard thanks to the team’s diligence. Vegetative growth was then uniform, with warm conditions punctuated by occasional showers. The near-tropical climate in June led to high disease pressure, which was also kept under control. A dry, sunny July preceded an August marked by heat spikes balanced by welcome rain showers.

Winemaking and Aging

The harvest is placed in a cold room for rigorous sorting, followed by gentle vinification in the estate’s new vat room. Extraction is carefully controlled. Fermentation is slow and continuous. No sulfur is used.

Blend

Merlot (41%)
Cabernet Franc (32%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (27%).
