James Suckling

A fresh, blue-fruited nose with plums, violets, raw mushrooms and wet soil. Structured yet delicate at the same time. Medium-bodied, with refined, silky tannins. Lingering and supple. It’s 100% merlot for the first time. Drink from 2027.

Black cherries, plums, strawberries, chocolate, and plums form the core of the wine on the nose and on the palate. Medium-bodied, fresh, soft, round, and fruity, there is a dusty, chalky edge on the finish. It is interesting to note that with the 2021 vintage, the wine is produced from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2024–2038.

Le Figaro Vin

Pure fruit on the nose, with delectable fur-like, sanguine notes reminiscent of the noblest pomerols. The wine is energizing on the palate, linear and cool, with concentrated, mouthwatering fruit.

Dark, beautiful color. Intense nose with ripe fruit and a slightly sanguine note. On the palate, the absence of Cabernet suits this profile perfectly: pure voluptuousness. Very long, sappy finish with a melting, supple body. 100% Merlot. Alcohol: 14% – pH: 3.6. Yield: 42 hl/ha.

Terre de Vins

100% Merlot this year, Domaine de l’Église stands out for a certain opulence and expressive fruit, with a very appealing spicy touch. The palate is well-focused, built on fairly taut substance, dressed in supple tannins and a well-judged élevage. This is a very lovely Pomerol 2021.

Description

An elegant and complex red wine from Pomerol

The estate

Poised on the right bank of Bordeaux near the church of Pomerol, Chateau du Domaine de L'Eglise is one of the appellation’s oldest wineries.

The vineyard

Chateau du Domaine de L'Eglise 2021 is a Pomerol wine that stems from a 7-hectare vineyard located in the center of the famous plateau of the appellation.

The vintage

A particularly wet winter preceded a spring marked by a major frost on the 7th and 8th of April, which had an impact on the vines, whose budbreak had begun on April 2nd. Although May was hot and dry, which aided the flowering period, conditions in June were cool and rainy. The estate's teams increased their efforts to preserve the vineyard’s healthy condition. The weather in July and August was variable and cool. The dampness at the beginning of September gave way to a pleasant month of October, during which the sunshine and low rainfall helped to refine the ripening process. Harvested at optimal ripeness, the Merlot grapes boast a very high quality.

Vinification and aging

The wine is aged exclusively in barrels (60% new, 40% second fill barrels).

The blend

Merlot (100%).
