Description
A fresh and balanced Pomerol wine
The estate
Located on the right bank of Bordeaux near the church of Pomerol, Chateau du Domaine de L’Eglise is one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation.
The vineyard
The vineyard at Chateau du Domaine de L’Eglise is located at the center of the famous Pomerol plateau. Mainly made up of Merlot, its grape varieties offer wines that are recognised beyond their borders for their quality.
The vintage
2020 is the third vintage in a trilogy of very high-quality vintages; 2018, 2019 and 2020. Cold and slightly rainy, January preceded a dry February with low rainfall and a spike in heat on the 3rd (24°C). Despite a cold climate at the beginning of the month, bud break took place from March 24. Milder conditions from May onwards encouraged quick flowering. Hot and dry conditions set in from July to mid-August, when a rainy spell salvaged the vineyard. Harvested at full ripeness, the high-quality grapes gave roundness, richness and elegance to the vintage.
Blend
The 2020 Chateau du Domaine de L’Eglise is made from a blend of Merlot (96%) and Cabernet Franc (4%).
Tasting
Color
The wine is a bright, intense color.
Nose
Elegantly and with a beautiful freshness, the nose unveils aromas of ripe fruit. Perfectly blended, aging in barrels enhances the spicy character of this wine.
Palate
The dense and delicious attack precedes a palate which seduces with its general and tannic structure, smooth to the touch. Despite a vintage which has been recognised as hot, the palate retains a remarkable balance and a delicious freshness.
