Description
Three Great Vintages of Château d’Yquem Brought Together in an Exceptional Gift Box
The estate
Handed down since 1593, Château d'Yquem is today a House of the LVMH group, which formalized its acquisition in 1999. Located in the commune of Sauternes, in Gironde, the estate covers 113 hectares and remains the only Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 Classification. Its leadership brings together Pierre Lurton, Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2004, and Lorenzo Pasquini, appointed Managing Director in 2025, continuing a historic savoir-faire devoted to the great sweet wines of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The Château d'Yquem vineyard lies at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, close to the Ciron valley, whose morning mists encourage the development of botrytis. The soils, made up of gravel, sand, clay and limestone, are worked according to a fine parcel-by-parcel selection. The vines, with an average age of around thirty-three years, are managed using traditional practices that are now certified organic.
The gift box
This 1988–1989–1990 Trilogy Case brings together three vintages of exceptional quality, unanimously regarded as a great trilogy in the history of Château d'Yquem. Offering extraordinary depth, richness and persistence, these wines are as ready to be enjoyed today to celebrate exceptional moments as they are to be kept in the cellar for several more decades to continue their remarkable evolution.
Château d'Yquem 1988 — freshness and purity
The vintage that initiated the trilogy, the 1988 opens with an intense, fruity nose of kumquat, mandarin and orange marmalade, enriched with dried fruits (prunes, Corinth raisins, golden figs), mountain honey and beeswax. On the palate, it impresses with its crystalline freshness and airy structure, revealing beautiful complexity of candied citrus and tertiary aromas. The finish stretches out elegantly on fine, refined bitter notes.
Château d'Yquem 1989 — harmony and vibrancy
The 1989 unveils a complex, refined bouquet blending quince, apricot, pineapple, hints of menthol, floral touches and nuances of white truffle. On the palate, it seduces with its breadth and concentration, supported by lively acidity that lends it tension and vivacity. The long, ethereal finish, with notes of marmalade, saffron and honey-coated tropical fruits, hints at remarkable aging potential.
Château d'Yquem 1990 — breadth and balance
The 1990 vintage offers a captivating nose of fully ripe fruits (roasted apricots, very ripe pineapple) enhanced by indulgent notes of butterscotch, crème brûlée and toasted marshmallow, subtly lifted by sweet spices and honey. On the palate, unctuousness reigns, perfectly balanced by a lively acidity that gives it great energy despite its opulence. Already very expressive, this vintage promises many more beautiful decades of cellar aging.
