Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Château Closiot C de Sec 2025

Tasting notes

Appearance
Revealing a golden-yellow hue, this wine is both bright and radiant.

Nose
Particularly aromatic and exotic, the bouquet reveals very ripe fruit aromas mingled with notes of spice, vanilla and subtle toasted touches.

Palate
Full-bodied and round, the palate unfolds an impressive volume supported by a lovely textural richness. The whole is perfectly balanced by a bright acidity and stretches into a long, chalky finish with great mineral tension.

Serving and cellaring

This C de Sec 2025 shows exceptional aging potential and can be enjoyed from around 2028 to 2040. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C.

The singular expression of a great white Bordeaux from Château Closiot

The estate

Officially established in 1988, Château Closiot is a wine estate located in Barsac, in the Bordeaux region. Historically managed by the Sirot-Soizeau family, the estate underwent a major turning point when it was acquired in 2017 by Jean-Marie Guffens, a renowned winemaker from the Mâconnais. Under his direction, the vineyard now spans approximately 8 hectares. Moving away from the local tradition of sweet wines, the current owner brings his Burgundian expertise to craft dry white wines of remarkable distinction, combining richness with mineral tension.

The vineyard

This wine from the Dry White Bordeaux category comes from Clos Bonneau, an exceptional terroir located on the Barsac plateau. The vines thrive on complex soils made up of red clay-sand, gravel and clay-limestone deposits, all resting on a bedrock of fissured limestone typical of the region. Vine management follows organic principles, favouring an environmentally respectful approach and meticulous care of this small vineyard.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the C de Sec 2025 draws on methods inspired by Burgundy. A large part of the must ferments and ages in oak barrels, with around 25% new oak. To preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral expression of the terroir, certain grape varieties, such as Muscadelle, are vinified in concrete tanks. Aging continues on fine lees, with regular stirring (bâtonnage), bringing roundness, volume and complexity to the final blend.

Grape varieties

This wine is a blend of Sémillon (90%), Sauvignon Gris (5%) and Muscadelle (5%).
