The singular expression of a great white Bordeaux from Château Closiot
The estate
Officially established in 1988, Château Closiot is a wine estate located in Barsac, in the Bordeaux region. Historically managed by the Sirot-Soizeau family, the estate underwent a major turning point when it was acquired in 2017 by Jean-Marie Guffens, a renowned winemaker from the Mâconnais. Under his direction, the vineyard now spans approximately 8 hectares. Moving away from the local tradition of sweet wines, the current owner brings his Burgundian expertise to craft dry white wines of remarkable distinction, combining richness with mineral tension.
The vineyard
This wine from the Dry White Bordeaux category comes from Clos Bonneau, an exceptional terroir located on the Barsac plateau. The vines thrive on complex soils made up of red clay-sand, gravel and clay-limestone deposits, all resting on a bedrock of fissured limestone typical of the region. Vine management follows organic principles, favouring an environmentally respectful approach and meticulous care of this small vineyard.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the C de Sec 2025 draws on methods inspired by Burgundy. A large part of the must ferments and ages in oak barrels, with around 25% new oak. To preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral expression of the terroir, certain grape varieties, such as Muscadelle, are vinified in concrete tanks. Aging continues on fine lees, with regular stirring (bâtonnage), bringing roundness, volume and complexity to the final blend.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Sémillon (90%), Sauvignon Gris (5%) and Muscadelle (5%).
