Decanter

Smooth and sappy, this has great energy and liveliness from the first sip with tangy red fruit, verging on high-toned, but with lovely chalky tannins that give this a wide frame. Clean and clear as well as fresh with mint, liquorice and clove spice on the finish. Cool and crunchy with crystalline fruit and bright acidity. Ends lean and salty with generous minerality.

Currants, blackberries, oranges and crushed stones on the nose of this fragrant and bright red. It’s full-bodied with lively acidity and fine, firm tannins. Nicely structured and energetic. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. Drink from 2027.

Antonio Galloni

The 2022 Canon Pécresse is packed with super-ripe dark fruit, chocolate, leather, cloves and licorice. It offers excellent depth, but its ripeness profile is definitely on the edge, as manifested by its slightly roasted character and lack of freshness. I would prefer to drink this on the earlier side.

Soft, fresh, silky, creamy, and loaded with dark and red fruits, chocolate and licorice, the wine will be delicious on release, allowing you to enjoy all its fruit, freshness, spice, and cocoa early in life. This is the final vintage for the previous owners, as the vineyard was purchased by the owners of Chateau La Dauphine in 2023. Drink from 2025–2038. 91–93 pts.

The 2022 Château Canon Pécresse offers currants, smoky earth, graphite, crushed stone, and blackcurrants. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, it’s focused and enjoyable, with ripe tannins on the finish.

The Merlots are so ripe in this vintage that they lean more towards dark fruit than red, and here they are framed by plenty of limestone-driven salinity. Aromatically closed for now, it needs a few more years to fully open, but there is real depth and potential. Harvested September 9 to 23. 1/3 in cement vats, 2/3 in 225L and 400L barrels, 33 hl/ha yield, organic certified since 2020.

Le Figaro Vin

Ripe, generous fruit with a slightly sweet nose. On the palate, it is refined, saline and enticing, with a long finish you could almost eat.

Yves Beck

An estate of 4 ha owned by Jean-Francis Pécresse. A convincing fusion of ripe notes and fresh fruit on the bouquet, which also reveals chalky nuances and a pleasant hint of cocoa bean. Medium in density, the wine stands out for its harmony, its velvety yet fleshy tannins, and a fruity, mouthwatering finish. A flavorful wine that can already be enjoyed young.

The nose is mineral and offers indulgence, a lovely fine grain, and a certain refined concentration. It reveals notes of black cherry and violet plum, and, more subtly, small roasted-juicy fruits, along with hints of star anise and fresh blond tobacco, as well as a very discreet touch of almost grilled aromatic herbs. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers freshness, minerality, a graphene-like edge, lovely finesse of grain, fine fluidity, and a silky, fine texture. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry and toasted nuances, and, more slightly, nutmeg, combined with touches of ripe, juicy red berries, as well as hints of sweet blond tobacco and a hint of black pepper in the background. Good length.

Description

A Canon-Fronsac red wine that entices with its aromatic expression and balance

The estate

In 1947, Jean-Francis Pécresse's family decided to invest in the Fronsadais region, in the Canon-Fronsac appellation, north of the Bordeaux region. In 2003, Jean-Francis took over the reins of Château Canon Pécresse in order to draw out the quintessence of this terroir with high potential from the plots of land that are maintained with the greatest care and respect for the environment.

The vineyard

Château Canon Pécresse 2022 is a Canon-Fronsac wine that stems from a 4-hectare vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils.
