Description
The estate
Located in the Pessac-Leognan appellation, Chateau Baret boasts ancient origins. The foundations of the estate date back to the 4th century. For several generations, Chateau Baret belonged to the Lords of Baret. In 1867, the Ballande family of merchants and shipowners acquired the estate. Over the past twenty years, Chateau Baret has undergone major renovations and restructuring, both in the vineyard and in the winery. From vintage to vintage, following the arrival of a new team in 2015, this historic estate has stood out as one of the most beautiful references of the Pessac-Leognan appellation.
The vineyard
The Chateau Baret vineyard is located in the town of Villenave d'Ornon, east of Bordeaux and covers 25.80 hectares of vines. The vines, aged for 25 years on average, are planted on Garonne gravel and clay-limestone subsoils. 21.70 hectares are dedicated to red wines, while 4.10 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties.
The winemaking and aging
Manual harvests, pellicular maceration and fermentation in barrels. Aging lasts for 12 months (2/3 wooden vats, 1/3 barrels) on lees with stirring twice a week for 2 months.
Blend
The white Chateau Baret 2020 is 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
