For the first time in the history of Bordeaux wines, 5 Premier Cru Classe estates of the same appellation have come together to create one unique bottling. This case features a bottle of this very special wine, along with a bottle each of the First Wine from each chateau in its 2017 vintage.
A breath of fresh air has been blowing through Sauternes in recent years and the 5 Premiers Crus Classes of 1855 (namely Chateaux Sigalas Rabaud, Rayne Vigneau, Lafaurie-Peyraguey, La Tour Blanche and Rabaud-Promis) are no strangers to this fact. Their first collaboration, released in February 2018 was a very successful 5-star Sauternes case, which featured a bottle of the 2009 vintage from each property. This was followed by a great reception of the 2016 and 2017 vintages, and now the stage is set for this 5 Etoiles 5+ case.
These neighboring properties in the town of Bommes have decided to create "an oenological dream" and to transcribe in a single bottle the peculiarities of their terroir by blending their First Wines. The project seemed complex on paper but it took shape from the very first blending attempt, the simplest, the most straight-forward and the fairest: 1 / 5th of each First Wine from the 2017 vintage were included.
5+ represents both the continuity of a strong dynamic between these Sauternes estates and a prism of their particularities, their differences, a condensed expression of the greatest terroirs of Bommes. This innovative case is a rare must-have item. Chateau Sigalas Rabaud 2017, Chateau de Rayne Vigneau 2017, Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2017, Chateau La Tour Blanche 2017, Chateau Rabaud-Promis 2017 and the bottle of Sauternes 5+ 2017 make up a this rare oenological adventure in a legendary Sauternes vintage. A sure bet of excellence.
According to a legend, Sauternes vintages ending in -7 are exceptional. This is confirmed by the 2017 vintage, as well as the 1987, 1997, 2007 vintages. Botrytis has developed rapidly on grapes of excellent quality. Carried out in 3 to 5 sortings from mid-September to the end of October, the harvest yielded wines that reveal freshness, tension, power, acidity, fruitiness and beautiful harmony.
Vinification and aging
The 5 Etoiles 5+ 2017 bottling is aged in oak barrels for 18 months.
The 5 Etoiles 5+ 2017 is a blend of Semillon (83%), Sauvignon (16%) and Muscadelle (1%).
The color of the 5 Étoiles 5+ cuvée is bright and radiant.
Intense and very precise, the nose gradually presents a rich aromatic palette combining fragrances of white peach, lychee and linden.
The palate of this unique Sauternes cuvée seduces with its freshness, softness and its silky, palate-coating texture. Over the course of the tasting, the palate reveals a beautiful structure, combining elegance and power with exceptional length.
