The property
Located south of Bordeaux, Chateau d'Yquem is one of the most beautiful references of the Sauternes appellation. This majestic Premier Cru Classe Superieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and produces sweet wines that are sought after worldwide.
The wine
Produced in the Bordeaux Blancs Secs appellation, Y is the dry white wine of the famous Chateau’Yquem.
The vintage
This vintage will be remembered as especially early and rare. 2020 was indeed the vintage with the lowest production recorded for many years, with around 50% less grapes harvested than in 2019, which is already considered a rare vintage. Begun on August 13, the Y harvest was the earliest in the history of the property. In order to ensure that the grapes would be picked at optimal aromatic maturity, the Sauvignon was harvested in two sortings (on August 13 and 19), thus preserving their acidity, an element key to achieving balance. The Semillon harvest was carried out on August 27.
The blend
Y 2020 is made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (75%) and Semillon (25%).
