A Lively Riesling with Tart Apple Aromas

A faithful representative of the Wachau wine region of Austria, Emmerich Knoll III cultivates 15 hectares of vineyard land, producing wines that fully express the characteristic Underloiben terroir. The Emmerich Knoll winery has been owned and operated by the family for over three generations. Today, the vineyards are planted with mostly Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, though Knoll also cultivates some Rivaner, Gelber Traminer, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. "Smaragd" denotes the most valuable wines of the Wachau region, produced under strict quality regulations and characterized by a remarkable potential to age. The very selective harvest for the Riesling Smaragd 2014 by Emmerich Knoll was carried out manually. Vinification was done without destemming and with skin contact in casks and stainless steel tanks from 500 to 3,000 liters in capacity, depending on the volume of the batch. Fermentation takes 5 to 15 days, followed by 6-8 months of lees aging without stirring. The wine is aged for 1 month in the bottle before its release in September.

The Riesling Smaragd 2014 by Emmerich Knoll is an energetic and lively single-variety Riesling, releasing aromas of tart apple, white berries and a wet stone minerality on the nose.
