The estate
For over 250 years, Weingut Dönnhoff has tended a unique terroir of dizzyingly steep slopes along the banks of the Nahe. Vintage after vintage, Helmut Dönnhoff crafts great German wines from a mosaic of terroirs, expressing the complexity, purity and multiple nuances of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
Recognized across borders as among the world’s greatest white wines, the wines of Weingut Dönnhoff captivate with their elegance, aromatic richness, freshness and exceptional minerality that blossoms after several decades of aging.
Vineyard
Covering 25 hectares, the terroir of this essential German estate derives its uniqueness from its diversity of soils and exposures, offering ideal conditions for grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Meticulously tended, the 20- to 70-year-old vines yield low quantities of very high quality.
The wine
This Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett comes from southeast-facing hillside vineyards on grey clay-slate soils. The vines are 25 to 45 years old.
Winemaking and aging
A rigorous selection during hand harvesting ensures only high-quality grapes are kept. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and large oak casks, as does the maturation.
