Description
The estate
For more than 250 years, the Weingut Dönnhoff has watched over a unique terroir of vertiginous hillsides on the banks of the Nahe river.
Helmut Dönnhoff produces, year after year, fine German wines from a patchwork of terroirs that truly express the complexity, purity and multiple nuances of the Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris varietals.
Renowned beyond the country’s borders as being among the greatest white wines in the world, the wines of the Weingut Dönnhoff exhibit an alluring elegance, aromatic richness, freshness and offer an exceptional minerality which emerges after several decades of ageing.
The vineyard
With a surface area of 25 hectares, the terroir of the Weingut Dönnhoff is unique due to its array of soils and sun exposures, offering ideal conditions for the grapes to reach optimal maturity. The low-yielding vines, which are between 20 and 70 years old, are meticulously nurtured and produce high-quality grapes.
The wine
Classified as a VDP Grosse Lage, this Riesling Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Grosses Gewächs Trocken 2021 by Weingut Dönnhoff is a Nahe wine stemming from a sloping, south-facing vineyard that has been recognised for more than a century as the highest quality terroir in the entire Nahe region. The vines, which can reach 70 years of age, are planted on extremely mineral-rich soils composed of grey-black slate and volcanic elements.
The blend
This Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Grosses Gewächs Trocken 2021 by Weingut Dönnhoff is a 100% Riesling.
