Refined and deep, a fine Ribera del Duero wine
Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation.Today, a constant search for excellence, a symbiotic harmony with nature, rigour and dedication make this Spanish estate a prestigious reference. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have embraced and enhanced the philosophy of Vega Sicilia. Thus, the extreme care provided both in the vineyards and throughout the winemaking process leads to the production of fine Spanish wines from the most unique lands.
Spread over 130 hectares, 70 of which are situated on the estate, Alión by Vega Sicilia is made from a meticulous selection of the most exceptional vineyards in the Ribera del Duero appellation. The soils of this terroir benefit from the influence of the nearby river, colluvium and the wind. The vines are 38 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone soils whose perfect water regulation favours an early ripening of the grapes.
2017 will be remembered for the cold weather, 2018 is a more delayed vintage. The beginning of the year was challenging due to significant mildew pressure and relatively cool temperatures that slowed down the growing cycle. This was followed by dry and hot weather conditions, offset by a few days of rain, salvaging the grapes before the harvest.
The vinification and ageing
Harvesting by hand leads to the selection of the highest quality grapes. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in barrels (80% new oak and 10% American oak) as well as in concrete tanks to soften the tannins all while preserving the freshness of the wine.
Alión 2018 by Vega Sicilia is a 100% Tinto Fino.
A rich wine, this blend combines fresh fruit and graphite aromas. The delicious depth is revealed throughout the tasting experience. The finesse of the ageing process is enhanced by the subtle complexity of the spicy notes.
Food and wine pairing
This fine Ribera del Duero wine will perfectly complement red meats, lamb-based dishes and Iberian cured meats.
For an optimal tasting experience, serve at 18°C.
Alión 2018 by Vega Sicilia can be kept in the cellar until 2033 in order to reveal its full aromatic range.
