Saumur produces a variety of wine styles under 7 different appellations (Saumur Rouge, Saumur Rose, Saumur White, Brut, Saumur-Champigny, Puy-Notre-Dame, Coteaux de Saumur) covering over more than 3800 hectares. The vines are planted on white soil composed of tuffeau. The soils are also a mixture of Cuesta, faults, Cretaceous and Turonian hills. The red wines of Saumur combine finesse with a refreshing style. The Rose and white wines are dry, lean and fruity. The dry reds are raw and brilliant, and the sparkling wines are extremely charming.
