El Enemigo arose from the shared vision of Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, head winemaker of the famous Bodega Catena Zapata since 2002, to produce fine wines in the heart of the Mendoza region, in Argentina. In 2007, these two enthusiasts founded El Enemigo, literally meaning the enemy, as well as the Bodega Aleanna winery. Success was achieved swiftly. The estate was rapidly acclaimed throughout the world for its Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Gualtallary wine.

The estate is located south of Luján de Cuyo. The vineyards of the estate are poised at a very high altitude, not far from the Andes Mountains. The vineyards of El Enemigo are located between 930 and 1470 metres above sea level and are composed of varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Bodarna, Chardonnay and Malbec. The soils vary between limestone, rock and clay, which make up an interesting patchwork of terroirs for the cultivation of vines.

This exceptional terroir is enhanced by the significant expertise of Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, reflected in the estate’s traditional winemaking techniques. Respect for ancestral traditions shapes the wines of this prestigious estate, and this passion gives rise to gourmet vintages that are highly sought-after by lovers of fine wines. El Enemigo produces only two references: Gran Enemigo and El Enemigo.
