Bodegas Poniente emerged from the partnership between Patrick Mata and Alberto Orte, already partners since 1999 with their import business Ole & Obrigado. Named after the wind coming in from the west, Bodegas Poniente reigns over 16 hectares of vines and produces Sherry from three vineyards in Andalusia: San Cristobal, San Jose and El Aljibe. Alberto Orte, the winemaker of Bodegas Poniente, has embarked on an extraordinary venture in Jerez, where he applies his family's expertise.

What sets Poniente apart is its unique approach; the bodega vinifies and ages the wines in a historical estate surrounded by vines, imparting a genuine sense of terroir. Poniente sherries are the fruit of the blending of exquisite criadera and solera barrels dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The criadera and solera barrels are replenished every year with the wines stemming from the estate’s organically grown vines.
