Monthelie

Monthelie is an appellation of more than 120 hectares in the Monthelie commune. For all the climats, 15 have the Monthelie Premier Cru classification. The vines are planted on soils composed of Bathonian limestone-gravel resting on red clay and marl, as well as soils consisting of Argovian limestone. Although the Monthelie appellation is mainly used for Pinot Noir red wines, there are some hectares reserved for Chardonnay whites. These white wines have vanilla, white flower, apple and dried fruit aromas. Supple in the mouth, they offer a fantastic acidity. The majority of the Monthelie reds reveal red fruit, black fruit and floral fragrances that evolve into vegetal and spicy notes as they age. On the palate, they are firm and velvety and have tannins of great finesse.
