The Power and Finesse of a Lively Saint-Julien

Truly an emblem of the Saint-Julien appellation, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the essential references for those who love the great wines of Bordeaux.

A brand in its own right, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou is more than just the second wine of the property. With a plot that is exclusively dedicated to this cru, home to an exceptional terroir of Günzian gravel, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou has established itself as a different kind of Medoc wine with its own well-recognized label.

In spite of the episodes of frost that hit the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard, the climatic conditions that followed made it possible for the fruit to achieve an excellent phenolic potential and perfect ripeness in time for the harvest.

Made from a blend dominated by Merlot (58%) and complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (39%) and Petit Verdot (3%), the La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2017 presents a vibrant, intensely fruity profile. This wine charms the taster immediately with its dark purple color and black core. The wine displays a beautiful bouquet, revealing pure aromas of blackcurrant and ripe plum, punctuated with notes of black cherry liquor. Swirling the glass reveals notes of freshly cut tobacco leaves and roasted aromas, reminiscent of delicious chocolate and coffee beans. Powerful and perfectly structured, the palate delivers with elegance and a perfect tannin-acidity balance, while the finish offers a generous length, punctuated with notes of small red fruits. A lively and very seductive Saint Julien.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
This is not a second wine per se, as it consistently comes from a separate vineyard in Saint-Julien. The blend is usually around 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, but this year it has a high percentage of Merlot: 58%, with 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 La Croix de Beaucaillou has quite a spicy nose sporting cloves, anise, black pepper and fenugreek with a core of crushed blackberries and black currants plus wafts of underbrush and potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins and great freshness supporting the vivacious fruit, finishing long and earthy.
