Description
A prestigious estate located in Graves, south of Bordeaux, Domaine de Chevalier belongs to the elite circle of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classes.
Situated in the Pessac-Leognan appellation, Domaine de Chevalier oversees a vineyard of 55 hectares, out of which 50 hectares are dedicated to the production of great red wines.
The Second Wine of the estate, the L’Esprit de Chevalier red reflects the aim of the Bernard family to create a red wine that combines power and complexity, finesse and elegance. The L’Esprit de Chevalier red is made from a selection of vines planted in 1986. The vintage is aged for 14 months in oak barrels, one-third of which are of new oak. The L’Esprit de Chevalier red blends of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%).
At the tasting, the L’Esprit de Chevalier red 2018 shows off a beautiful red color with a black center. The aromatic bouquet is very expressive, revealing plenty of black fruits, including blueberry, cassis, blackberry and cherry. Beautiful spicy and peppery notes then appear, eventually giving way to mineral touches of graphite, like pencil lead. On the palate, the wine offers a gourmand and juicy texture, unveiling an elegant structure of very fine tannins. An exquisite sensation of creaminess is perfectly balanced by a great fruity freshness and a remarkable tension that lingers long in the finish. A fantastic red wine from Pessac-Leognan that can be fully appreciated in its youth.
