Waxy lemon peels, pears, honeysuckle, pineapples, white flowers and just a bit of white peach aromatics fill the perfume. The palate balances sweetness with freshness, giving you a spicy, tropical fruit, and sweet, citrus mid-palate, and finish. The wine blends 66% Semillon with 34% Sauvignon Blanc. 13.7% ABV, 3.39 pH. Drink from 2027-2033. 93-93 Pts

This wine comes from 35–40-year-old vines grown on gravelly soils. Notes of almond and lime are complemented by a touch of white flowers and mandarin peel. Slightly creamy and saline on the attack, the wine is driven by its breadth and an acidity that works subtly in the background, while delicate bitter notes reinforce the freshness and lingering finish. A beautifully crafted wine, distinguished by its ability to reveal its power and complexity with subtlety.

Decanter

Honeyed and fragrant peach and lemons on the nose with some floral elements and almond flecks. Round and succulent with a gorgeous texture but also so clean and precise, sitting on a cool base with touches of vanilla, cream, anise, cumin, bitterness and herbal aspects. I love this. Relatively quiet right now, less fruity and more powerful, mineral and floral, very nuanced. I expect this will grow in stature and flavour, but this is already great. Highest proportion of Semillon in the blend. A yield of 15 hl/ha (could reasonably hope for 25-28hl/ha). One or two tries through the vineyard for the dry wine, same process as for the sweet.

Clearly more luscious than its sibling wine Lions de Suduiraut, it sets out its stall with depth and tension, apricot, nectarine, white mango and quince. This is selected from the same terroir as the main Suduiraut wine. 14% new oak for ageing, 3.39pH.

The Power and Balance of a Bordeaux Blanc Sec by Château Suduiraut

The estate
Located in the famous Bordeaux region, Château Suduiraut officially traces its history back to 1580, when it was established under this name following a marital union. This prestigious 90-hectare estate, recognised as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, has been owned by AXA Millésimes since 1992. Under this stewardship, the property continues to uphold the excellence of this Bordeaux terroir while developing a strong brand, combining respect for classic traditions with contemporary environmental management to produce wines of exceptional quality.

The vineyard
Born of the prestigious classified terroir of Sauternes, this wine ranks among the great Bordeaux Blancs Secs. The selected parcels lie on sandy-clay gravel soils that promote a beautiful minerality. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, are cultivated with care to express all the concentration, character and elegance typical of this exceptional terroir.

The vintage
The year 2025 began with a mild and dry winter, marked by a 45% rainfall deficit. Budburst occurred early, around 25 March. The spring, which was wetter, required increased vigilance against the risk of mildew, before flowering took place under mild and stable conditions around 3 June. The summer was characterised by persistent intense heat at the end of June and a 30% water shortage, leading to early hydric stress and small berries. Veraison spanned from 26 to 28 July depending on the grape variety. Fortunately, a few welcome storms in late July and early August, followed by cooler and cloudier weather, helped preserve the acidity and quality of the grapes through to the harvest.

Winemaking and aging
The making of the Grand Vin Blanc Sec "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 begins with a gentle, long pneumatic pressing of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, followed by cold settling at 10°C. Fermentation takes place in barrels with temperatures strictly controlled between 17 and 22°C, with no malolactic fermentation. Aging then continues for 9 months in casks (including 14% new oak and 86% one-wine barrels), accompanied by regular bâtonnage of the fine lees. Alcohol content: 13.7% vol.

Grape varieties
66% Sémillon, 34% Sauvignon Blanc.
