Description
A fresh and elegant Second Wine of Saint-Julien
The estate
A 4th Classified Growth of Saint-Julien, Chateau Talbot is one of the most iconic references of Haut-Medoc. Acquired by Desire Cordier in 1918, Chateau Talbot is today managed by Nancy Bignon-Cordier and her husband, Jean-Paul Bignon.
The vineyard
The Chateau Talbot vineyard is a real treasure, covering 110 hectares of vines all in one piece, in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. These vines, 43 years old on average, enjoy an ideal location on the edge of the Gironde estuary and are planted in ridges of Medoc gravel and alluvial deposits.
The wine
Born in the 1960s, Connetable Talbot is one of the very first second wines of the Medoc. This great Haut-Medoc red wine is made from younger vines but with the same care taken during the selection of fruit and during its vinification than for the estate’s first wine. Following in the footsteps of the first wine, Connetable Talbot from Chateau Talbot seduces those who love great Medoc wines with its classic style, its combination of elegance and precision, and its nice, fresh length on the palate.
Vinification and aging
Harvested manually, the grapes are subjected to successive sorting (manual, optical or densimetric) before vinification in stainless steel vats. Aging lasts 15 months in barrels, 15% of which are of new oak.
The blend
The Connetable Talbot 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%).
