A Fresh Bordeaux Superieur with Fresh Raspberry and Redcurrant Aromas
Chateau Peyfaures is a
Bordeaux Superieur property first founded in 1830 in Genissac, to the east of Entre-deux-Mers, across the Dordogne River from the Right Bank appellations of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. The vines grow in a clay-limestone soil mixture. They are cared for by the viticultural team with a
biodynamic and organic approach. A traditional Bordeaux winemaking style is employed at Chateau Peyfaures. Following the hand-picking of the grapes, they are crushed in a basket press. They then go through spontaneous fermentation with naturally occurring yeasts. The minimal intervention, parcel-by-parcel winemaking provides a way for the terroir to truly shine. The
Petit Peyfaures by Chateau Peyfaures is made from a blend of 95% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged in
stainless steel vats with roughly on third of the blend maturing in
French oak barrels for a period of 12 months.
The
Petit Peyfaures 2016 is a charming wine, revealing a
bouquet of fresh red fruits, especially raspberry and redcurrant. On the palate, this wine is
fresh with
round, juicy tannins and delicious red fruit aromas. It is an easy-to-drink wine with a pleasant complexity and a well-rounded, juicy and gentle texture.
