A great red wine of Pomerol, the Chateau La Fleur de Gay is the product of an exceptional terroir, which unites several different kinds of plots, on the right bank of Bordeaux. This vintage is born from a combination of 3 different parcels located on the high terrace of Pomerol. The vineyard represents a total area of 2.26 hectares.
The Chateau La Fleur de Gay is made from fruit from the La Fleur de La Boutonniere parcel, boasting the same pure clay soils found on the vineyard of the prestigious Petrus. The estate’s plot is located on a thick Günz gravel ridge, while the Groupey plot is planted in large-grained Günz gravel soils upon clay subsoils.
Product of an exceptional vintage, the Chateau La Fleur de Gay 2018 embodies the desire of the Raynaud-Lebreton family to reflect the typical terroirs of Pomerol following both Burgundian and Bordealais approaches. The three greatest terroirs of Pomerol are thus selected, while Bordeaux know-how is expressed through the tradition of blending.
Blending Merlot (96%) and Cabernet Franc (4%), the Chateau La Fleur de Gay 2018 is aged in Bordeaux barrels, with 95% new wood and 5% in barrels of one previous wine. A rare cuvée produced in limited quantity, the Chateau La Fleur de Gay 2018 expresses the identity of the greatest terroirs of Pomerol in an exceptional vintage with a beautiful aging potential.
