Description
The aromatic expression and freshness of a fine Pomerol wine
The estate
Established gradually by the Leglise family from Libourne around the middle of the 18th century, Chateau L’Evangile quickly earned the reputation of a "First Growth of Haut-Pomerol". After having been owned by the Ducasse family, it was in 1990 that the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired the estate and invested into making the estate one of the appellation’s best. From the vineyard to the cellar, Chateau L’Evangile has undergone major restructuring and modernizations that have made the property shine bright among the finest references in the Pomerol appellation.
The vineyard
Chateau L'Evangile 2021 is a Pomerol wine made from a 22-hectare vineyard that is poised in a privileged location between Chateau Petrus to the north and Chateau Cheval Blanc to the south. The vineyard is planted on sandy-clay soils with pure gravel, resting on a subsoil made up of the appellation’s famous iron ore.
The vintage
Marked by an episode of frost during spring followed by unstable weather conditions, 2021 is the first vintage of the estate to be officially certified as organic.
The blend
Merlot (69%)
Cabernet Franc (30%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)
