Chateau Gloria 2019

Perfectly judged maturation notes; on the palate, exquisitely polished, with great density, fruit and length; excellent and thoroughly recommendable.

Rock-solid, with a mouthwatering roasted apple wood and mesquite frame around a well-layered core of black currant, blackberry and plum fruit flavors. The finish features dots of tobacco and tar that add range, but the real driver is a long bolt of iron, which gives this a throwback feel. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2038.

Such a deep, concentrated nose, full of ripe blackcurrants and black cherries. Great intensity and concentration on the palate, some dark spicy notes, liquorice, black pepper and cinnamon around the edges alongside layers of juicy and succulent ripe fruit. A full, bold wine no doubt, real power here but stylish and energetic. If you like the gourmet style, this one is great.

Sweet berry and cherry aromas with violets, following through to a medium to full body with creamy, linear tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Tight and curated, in a structured way. Try after 2027.

The 2019 Gloria is a powerful, brooding Saint-Julien. Sweet red cherry, iron, dried flowers, menthol, herbs and cedar lend quite a bit of character. In 2019, Gloria is defined by its intensely feral personality and tannins. Perhaps time will help. Today, Gloria does not appear to be quite the charmer that it can be.

Black currants, English breakfast tea, orange rind and cigar box are on the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sweet, soft and elegant, as well as juicy, crisp and vibrant. The tannins are soft and polished, and the wine finishes with loads of creamy cassis and a touch of chocolate on the back end. Drink from 2027–2040.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening at the rim. Pleasant fine oak, blackberry, fine cassis, delicate liquorice. Juicy, red fruit, pleasant sweetness, fine tannins, elegant and persistent, shows balance and freshness, mineral-citric finish, good definite ageing potential.

Showing beautifully, with the polished, pure, elegant style of the vintage, the 2019 Château Gloria sports a deeper ruby/purple color as well as great aromatics of cassis and assorted blue fruits to go with smoked tobacco, cedar pencil, damp earth, and floral notes. I love its purity, and it's just a quintessential, medium to full-bodied, layered Saint-Julien that can be drunk today or cellared for a solid two decades. It should be a no-brainer purchase for the wine lovers out there.

Deep purple with a violet rim. Delicate violet bouquet, followed by gorgeous cassis spice, dark chocolate truffles and plum juice. On the powerful palate, sandy extract and a taut tannic framework, slightly drying. A focused finish with dark-berry contours and juniper. There’s not enough flesh on the bone here, but the fundamentals are present. Potential rating.

So good, this is a vibrant mix of young and exuberant, luxurious, seriously creamy in texture, crushed stone, baked earth, smoked caramel, damson, sweet blackberry and damson fruits. The 2019 Gloria, a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Scents of blackcurrant jelly, plum preserves, and chocolate-covered cherries jump from the glass followed by hints of pencil shavings and fruitcake. The medium-bodied palate is rich and spicy, with velvety tannins and a long, opulent finish.

After a 2018 that we perceived as a renewed quest for elegance, 2019 confirms it with a Gloria full of charm, flavor, and balance. The structure is delicate, the preserved, juicy fruit is delightful, and we find that smoothness so characteristic of the cru.

An opulent, sun-drenched nose, yet with a certain restraint—an elegance stemming from those racy black fruits and tobacco notes. On the palate, the fruit takes the lead, radiant like the summer sun of 2019, while remaining very fresh and mouthwatering. This is followed by a wave of savory tannins, as soft as a kitten’s tongue, before lovely bitters on the finish. An unexpected complexity for a wine so accessible in terms of price.

Black and purple color. Intense, refined, fruity, subtle nose with delicate notes of blackberry. Caressing from the attack and frankly silky afterwards, with plenty of flavor mid-palate, the wine develops densely and deeply on the finish, with precise, fine tannins. Excellent structure. Bravo!
