Description
The richness and freshness of a Côte de Brouilly wine
The estate
Located in Odenas, in the Beaujolais appellation, Château de La Chaize boasts a rich history that harks back to the 17th century. A 150-hectare vineyard, unique in its tapestry of soils, produces fine Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly and Fleurie wines that are greatly adored in the United States and by the Courts of England. In 2017 Christophe Gruy, an industrialist from Lyon, acquired the estate with the ambition of making it one of the most prestigious references among the fine Beaujolais wines.
The vineyard
Lieu-dit "Brûlhier" 2020 by Château de la Chaize is a Côte de Brouilly wine that stems from a steep 0.5-hectare vineyard. Located on the southern flank of Mont Brouilly and poised at an altitude of 400 to 425 metres, the south-facing vines lie on a soil composed of Brouilly diorite (andesite) also known as "blue stone".
Vinification and ageing
Following the harvest, 90% of the grapes are destemmed before undergoing a plot-by-plot vinification with indigenous yeasts. Pumping over and punching down. Vatting lasts 14 days.
The blend
Gamay (100%).
