Description
The aromatic complexity and purity of a savory, finely nuanced Saint-Julien Grand Cru
The estate
Classified as a Grand Cru in 1855, Château Branaire-Ducru is one of the great names of the Saint-Julien appellation. Owned by François-Xavier Maroteaux, son of the late Patrick Maroteaux, and managed by Jean-Dominique Videau, Château Branaire-Ducru offers, vintage after vintage, a superb expression of this great terroir on Bordeaux's left bank, with wines recognized for their elegance, velvety texture on the palate, and consistency.
The vineyard
This Saint-Julien vineyard covers 60 hectares following a 10-hectare expansion in 2009. The vines, 35 years old on average (though some are a century old), are planted on quaternary gravelly-siliceous alluvial soils. Recognized as among the warmest terroirs in the region, they allow late-ripening varieties to fully develop, ensuring perfect phenolic maturity.
The vintage
At Château Branaire-Ducru, the 2015 vintage benefited from highly favorable weather conditions. Flowering was optimal, with seasonal temperatures and no rainfall. The hot, dry summer favored the development of the berries and tannins. Some rainfall allowed for even veraison and a harvest of fully ripe berries.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet Franc (4%), Petit Verdot (5%).
