Decanter

Smells aromatic and fruity, lively and full of nuance, chocolate, menthol notes, fragranced dried flowers and liquorice touches and red fruits. Rich and well textured on the palate, juicy and alive. Nice purity and clarity to this, it has bite and a touch of high toned tangy red fruit to it, but it's lovely and light on its feet. Great body and character to this, enough fruit for sure, and well handled tannins. A really enjoyable glass with plenty going on. Still a touch tight but it's tension that gives energy rather than something being hidden. Very good. Flavour goes on and on, really lingers with cherry, liquorice and some minty touches. An upscore on Primeurs.

Weinwisser

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Intense bouquet, ripe wild strawberry, delicate roasted notes, Moroccan mint and light tobacco. On the complex palate with a silky texture, ripe extract, supporting freshness, ripe tannin framework and a straightforward body. In the focused, very long finish, red and blue berries, cardamom paired with an enticing milk-chocolate note. Overall, a refined seducer.

Spiced turmeric, cloves, blueberry, cassis, dark chocolate and cigar box. There is evident oak smoke, and this has charm and body through the mid-palate. Good for early to mid-term drinking, should comfortably age for 10 to 15 years.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Beauregard has a deep garnet-purple color. Notes of plum preserves and stewed blackberries hop from the glass, with underlying scents of Indian spices and mossy tree bark. Medium-bodied, with lightly chewy tannins, the palate has just enough fruit and a refreshing finish.

La RVF

We must applaud the fine success of this 2021. You plunge into a soup of dark fruits, combined with sweet spices and papier d’Arménie. The palate shows just the right extraction, with precise tannins, a smooth, sapid flow, and thirst‑quenching freshness.

Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss

Next door, but separate from Château Beauregard, the clos is planted exclusively with Merlot. The wine is dense with its black-cherry aromas and jammy fruit. It is a dense wine, needing to age further. Drink from 2026.

Description

A Pomerol red wine with an alluring freshness and finesse

The estate

Located within the Pomerol appellation, Chateau Beauregard boasts origins dating back to the 12th century and to the Knights Hospitaller, to whom we owe the famous Templar Cross (which became the emblem of the property) and who also cultivated at that time the lands of a Manor they owned.

The first vineyards were planted at Chateau Beauregard in the 18th century, and a line of successive owners has since developed its quality over the vintages, until it was recognized as one of the best wines of Pomerol.

The property is writing a new page in its history following its acquisition in 2014 by the Moulin and Cathiard families whose ambition has been to elevate the wines of this estate through major renovation work on the winemaking infrastructure.

The vineyard

Chateau Beauregard 2021 is a Pomerol wine that stems from a 17.5-hectare vineyard, certified in organic farming. The vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on a clayey-gravelly soil on the south-eastern edge of the famous Pomerol plateau.

The vintage

The mild and particularly wet winter gave way to a dry March which favored an early budding of the vines. April was dry and sunny, marked by episodes of frost. The heavy rainfall in May and June slowed down the development of the vine. Flowering was recorded at the beginning of June under clement weather conditions. Although the cool weather throughout summer slowed down the veraison period, September was very mild.

Vinification and aging

The grapes are sorted manually before destemming, followed by an optical sorting. The grapes are placed in cold rooms to lower the temperature to 6°C. Vinification by plot with gravity-flow vatting in 22 temperature-controlled concrete truncated cone-shaped vats. Alcoholic fermentation between 26 and 28°C. Entire vinification in new 225-liter barrels. Vatting for 3 to 4 weeks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in new barrels for the best vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrels (45% new) from 5 coopers. A selection of juices is aged in terracotta jars.

The blend

Chateau Beauregard 2021 comprises a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
