Markus Molitor is an estate in Moselle, Germany, named after its founder. Markus Molitor took over his father's exceptional estate in 1984 at the age of 20. He represents the eighth generation of his family to cultivate wine. It was he who gave his name to the estate, reflecting his ambition to restore Moselle Riesling to its former glory. For the winegrower, entirely dedicated to his vines, this profession is a mastery of precision craftsmanship. He rarely leaves his vineyard to bring out the best expression of this exceptional terroir. His vines are worked by hand, following an organic-biodynamic philosophy.
Markus Molitor's vineyards now cover 120 hectares of hillside vineyards, with plots sloping more than 80%. Some of the plots belonging to Markus Molitor are located on some of the finest terroirs in the Moselle, such as the Graach Himmelreich and plots in the Bernkastel and Ürzig districts. The particular geology of the Moselle terroir, with red slate soils of volcanic origin, blue slate and sandstone, gives Markus Molitor's wines a unique minerality. The vines also benefit from ideal exposure to plenty of sunshine, which favours excellent ripeness, with late harvests for the noble grape selections.
Markus Molitor's wines surprise with their incredible balance of alcohol, sugar and acidity. Each of the estate's bottles is topped with a cap indicating the style of wine. The dry wines are covered in white, the demi-sec in a grey-green colour reminiscent of slate, and the moelleux in gold.
Unanimously acclaimed by international critics and the source of some of the world's greatest Rieslings, Markus Molitor's wines offer a rare experience and an unparalleled definition of the complexity of the German Moselle terroir. Full of freshness in their youth, Markus Molitor wines develop with the grace and style of great Rieslings over time.
