The finesse of a balanced and structured Saint-Julien

In line with the estate’s greatest, the Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2018 is showing signs of a perfectly executed success from the appellation of Saint-Julien.

A vintage marked by extreme climatic contrasts, 2018 can be divided into two different periods. Following a very wet beginning of the year, a beautifully dry and hot summer arrived. The fruit was able to reach perfect ripeness. Spread over three weeks, the grape harvest began on September 18 and ended on October 10, allowing each variety to be harvested at the perfect moment.

The second wine of the prestigious Chateau Leoville Las Cases, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), de Merlot (45%) et de Cabernet Franc (13%).

At the tasting, the Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2018 offers a nice nose, marked by intense notes of black fruit, with aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and blueberry. The rich expression of the vintage is enhanced by a great aromatic freshness. The palate is very elegant, showing a beautiful structure and finesse worthy of the greatest terroirs of Saint-Julien. The tannins are refined, with a beautifully polished grain. Juicy and racy, the mid-palate delivers delicious fruity flavors and the mineral sensations of graphite. With great persistence, the finish brings a great aromatic freshness.

Power, elegance, richness and freshness, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2018 offers the experience of an exceptional Saint-Julien accessible in his youth.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2018 Le Petit Lion is blended of 45% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc, harvested from September 15 to October 4 with yields of 35.5 hectoliters per hectare. The wine has 14.47% alcohol and will be aged in barriques, 30% new. The finished blend was put into barrels last December. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives a wonderfully perfumed nose of violets, star anise and fragrant soil over a core of plum preserves, blackberry pie and blueberry compote plus a waft of spice cake. The palate is rich, seductive and spicy with plush, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and opulent. Love it!
