Juan Gil : Juan Gil Monastrell 2015

A Spanish Monastrell from Jumilla with Explosive Aromas of Fruit

Juan Gil was established and its winery built in 1916 by Juan Gil Jimenez, who saw the potential of the Jumilla region and its star grape, Monastrell. This part of Spain is characterized by an extreme climate full of strong contrasts, with hot, sunny summers and cold winters, and a difference of 25ºC between night and day. The vineyard, located at an altitude between 700 and 800m, gets very little rainfall and is planted in a dry, stony soil. The Juan Gil Monastrell 2015 is a Spanish red wine made of 100% Monastrell. The maceration and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and is matured in oak for a period of time depending on the vintage. The wine is kept in stainless steel tanks before being bottled.

The Juan Gil Monastrell 2015 from Juan Gil displays a gorgeous deep purple, almost black colour in the glass. On the nose, the bouquet explodes with aromas of ripe currant, red berries and hints of smoke. On the mouth, the attack is powerful, rich and generous with concentrated flavours of creme de cassis. The mid-palate is soft, smooth and juicy with a very persistent length, leading to a well-balanced and spicy finish, displaying beautifully integrated French oak. This is a fantastic wine to service with a wide range of food pairings, including stewed meat or rice with chicken and mushrooms.
