An exceptional Israeli red from the Judean Hills

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Eli Ben Zaken, Domaine du Castel has established itself as a benchmark in Israeli fine wine. Planting the first modern vineyard of the Judean Hills in Ramat Raziel marked the beginning of this family adventure. The first vintage of Castel Grand Vin was produced in 1992. This family-run estate is known for its meticulous approach and exacting standards of excellence, crafting Bordeaux-style blends from the finest parcels of the domaine.

The vineyard

The Grand Vin 2021 vineyard plots are located in the Judean Hills region, west of Jerusalem. The estate's finest parcels, planted at around 730 meters (about 2,400 feet) above sea level, enjoy ideal conditions for producing outstanding grapes.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes selected for Grand Vin 2021 come from the estate's best parcels. The wine is aged for about 16 months in French oak barrels, most of which are new. It then spends around 4 months in concrete tanks before bottling.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc.
