An Oregon Chardonnay Combining Freshness and Minerality of the Eola-Amity Hills
The Estate
During a trip to the United States in 1961, Robert Drouhin, the third generation of the family, discovered the Oregon vineyard and its wines. A few years later, after earning her oenology degree, his daughter Véronique moved to Oregon to work the vines with three pioneering winemaking families within the vast Dundee Hills appellation.
It was in 1987 that Robert Drouhin decided to purchase his first plots in this appellation.
For over 30 years, Véronique Drouhin and her brother Philippe have passionately produced natural wines under Domaine Drouhin, respected for their quality and refinement.
The Vineyard
The Roserock vineyard is located at the southern tip of the Eola-Amity Hills, in the southern part of the Willamette Valley. Planted on ancient volcanic soils between 120 and 260 meters in altitude, it benefits from the cooling effect of the Van Duzer corridor. This estate is LIVE (Low Input Viticulture Environment) certified, ensuring sustainable viticulture respectful of the environment.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage is characterized by an exceptionally late bud break on April 30. Unexpected warmth and minimal precipitation marked the season, with a record period of fewer than 45 days between bud break and flowering. Harvesting began in September and concluded on October 5. Despite significant rains at the end of September, grape quality remained excellent.
Winemaking and Aging
The Roserock Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 comes from three manually harvested and carefully sorted plots. After immediate pressing, vinification takes place equally in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. Following malolactic fermentation, the two parts are assembled to create the final cuvée, achieving a perfect balance between freshness and complexity.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
