The Vibrancy and Balance of an American Chardonnay from Oregon
The Estate
During a trip to the United States in 1961, Robert Drouhin, the third generation of the family, discovered the Oregon vineyard and its wines. A few years later, after earning her degree in oenology, his daughter Véronique settled in Oregon to work the vines with three pioneering winemaking families within the vast Dundee Hills appellation.
It was in 1987 that Robert Drouhin decided to purchase his first parcels within this appellation.
For over 30 years, Véronique Drouhin and her brother Philippe have passionately produced natural wines in respect of the know-how of their native Burgundy under the Domaine Drouhin label, recognized for their quality and refinement.
The Vineyard
The Roserock Vineyard is located at the southern end of the Eola Amity Hills, in the southern Willamette Valley. Planted on ancient volcanic soils, it sits at an altitude between 120 and 260 meters. The climate benefits from the cooling effect of the Van Duzer Corridor. The estate practices sustainable viticulture certified by Low Input Viticulture Environment.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage began on an optimistic note with a mild winter and bud break in early April. Spring was marked by an unprecedented Arctic air episode, accompanied by snow and frost—a first in the vineyards. The growing season proved cool and wet, slowing vine development with a delay of two to four weeks in June. Fortunately, abundant sunshine and above-average temperatures before harvest allowed for a harmonious end to the season and excellent berry ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
The three parcels of Roserock Vineyard Chardonnay 2022 are hand-harvested and sorted before being pressed immediately. Fermentation takes place equally in stainless steel tanks and barrels. After malolactic fermentation, the two parts are blended to form the final cuvée.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
