Description
The refinement and texture of an exceptional Saint-Julien wine
The estate
Founded in 1640, Château Léoville Poyferré is an essential estate of Saint-Julien. Spanning 80 hectares, it has belonged to the Cuvelier family since 1920, and has been managed by Sara Lecompte Cuvelier since 2018. Classified Second Grand Cru in 1855, it stands out for its exceptional terroir and its environmental commitment, certified HVE 3 since 2017.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Léoville Poyferré covers 80 hectares in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines, with an average age of 44 years, are planted on Mindel gravel terraces over a clay-sand subsoil.
Winemaking and ageing
Hand-harvested in crates, the grapes are rigorously sorted to retain only berries of optimal quality. Parcel-based winemaking is carried out in temperature-controlled conical stainless steel vats. Parcel selection, cold pre-fermentation maceration before alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts, then malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Ageing, lasting 18 to 20 months, is carried out in French oak barrels (80% new, 20% one-wine barrels).
Blend
The blend of Château Léoville Poyferré 2024 comprises 64 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 % Merlot, 8 % Cabernet Franc and 1 % Petit Verdot.
