Description

A rich and balanced Fronsac wine

The estate

The Château de Carles overlooks the Isle valley, within the Fronsac appellation in the Bordeaux region. This 14th century building took its current form during the Renaissance, where the greatest minds such as Montaigne and La Boétie gathered. Started 120 years ago under the impetus of Senator Guillaume Chastenet de Castaing, it is now the 4th generation that continues to write the wine history of this family estate.

The vineyard

Produced since 1994, the Haut-Carles cuvée is a Fronsac wine resulting from a rigorous parcel selection carried out on a 17-hectare vineyard. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on clay and clay-limestone soils on molasse.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes harvested by hand in crates are subject to a densimetric sorting. Parcel vinification by gravity. Ageing from 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new wood) in a thermo-regulated ageing cellar.

Blend

This Château Haut-Carles 2023 is the result of a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
