A Rich, Ripe Australian Gruner Veltliner with a Juicy Palate
In the past few decades,
Weingut Franz Hirtzberger has become one of the most important references of Spitz in the
Wachau wine region of
Austria. The estate was established by Franz Hirtzberger, who identified the very best single-vineyard terraces of the region and founded, together with some of the region's other big names, the Vinea Wanchau. Since 1983, his son Franz (the second) manages the family's 20 hectares of vineyards. The

Weingut Franz Hirtzberger is produced from 100%
Gruner Veltliner grapes. The vines grow in terraces of decomposed schist, mica and gneiss, with around 2-3% botrytized grapes picked during harvest, which took place between November 8 and 23, relatively late. The vinification takes place naturally in stainless steel vats. The wine is racked off the lees and then matured in large Austrian oak foudres before being lightly filtered and bottled.
In the glass, the

Weingut Franz Hirtzberger presents a bright, straw yellow color. The nose exudes rich and ripe stone fruit aromas, along with flinty mineral notes. This Australian Gruner Veltliner is full-bodied and juicy on the palate, revealing a delicate acidity and a charming finish, packed with sweet and sour, tropical flavors.
