Description

A fresh and elegant red wine from Saint-Julien

The estate

A superb estate with magnificent gardens, Château Beychevelle is one of the most prestigious properties of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. More radiant than ever, the property now boasts a brand new, state-of-the-art winery, designed by the architect Arnaud Boulain. The style of Château Beychevelle is defined by the consistently exceptional quality of its wines. Powerful, juicy and structured, they elegantly express the finesse of the great terroir of Saint-Julien. Made to be aged, the wines of Château Beychevelle evolve beautifully over years in the cellar.

The vineyard

Château Beychevelle 2021 is a Saint-Julien wine that stems from a 90-hectare vineyard. The unique Beychevelle terroir is characterised by its magnificent ridges of Garonne gravel and the close proximity of the Gironde, which regulates the climate and protects the vines from temperature extremes.

The vintage

Although a mild winter favoured an early budding of the vines, the frosts in April and May slowed down the vegetative development without impacting the yields, thanks estate’s proximity to the Gironde estuary. Heavy rainfall and cool temperatures in May, June and July led to heavy mildew pressure, which was maintained thanks to the estate’s diligent and knowledgeable team. At the end of summer and in September, the alternation between hot days and cool nights and mornings were ideal for refining the ripening process of the grapes while preserving their freshness. The grapes were particularly healthy and revealed very fine tannins and a great aromatic purity.

Winemaking and ageing

Following the harvest, a careful sorting was carried out in order to keep only the highest quality batches. The wine was aged in barrels (of which 70% are new).

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (57%)
Merlot (38%)
Petit Verdot (3%)
Cabernet Franc (2%).
