Description
One of the undisputed flagship cuvees of Channing Daughters Winery, the L'Enfant Sauvage is a single-variety Chardonnay wine made with grapes hand-harvested from the estate's own Brick Kiln and Sculpture Garden vineyards in Bridgehampton, Long Island. The fruit is pressed with whole clusters and the juice settled overnight, before it is poured into all new French oak barrels, filled to the top. The wine ferments with native yeasts only and malolactic fermentation also takes place in barrel. The wine is then left on its lees until it is finally blended and bottled. Altogether, the 2015 of L'Enfant Sauvage spent 16 months in barrel. Channing Daughters released only 282 cases of the 2015 vintage.
In the glass, the Channing Daughters Winery L'Enfant Sauvage Chardonnay 2015 displays a gorgeous, clear gold color. On the nose, this very special Long Island Chardonnay releases clean, expressive aromas of apples, pears and thick lemon curd, along with freshly baked brioche and brown baking spices. On the palate, the wine shows off a mediul body, balanced acidity and a long, very generous finish. A wine with rich, intense aromas and flavors, along with a rich barrel-fermented style, nevertheless maintaining a remarkable elegance and restraint. A very successful vintage, ready to be enjoyed in its youth, but which will also age beautifully in the bottle for 8-12 years.
