Domaine de la Ferte is a historical wine producer in the Burgundy region of France, owned by the Devillard family, who also runs Domaine des Perdrix in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine de la Garenne and Domaine du Chateau de Chamirey in Mercurey. The abbey after which the property was names was founded in 1113 under the Cistercian Order and the monks living here soon began to plant vines in Givry. The abbey was acquired by the Thenard family in 1793 and passed down, along with some of the surrounding vineyards.

The estate currently spans over 6.25 acres of land. The terroir of the Givry Village and Givry Premier Cru appellations, with their clay-limestone soils, is highly regarded, especially on the hills with southeastern and southern exposure. It is here that we find the estate’s 2.5-acre vineyard in La Servoisine, a prestigious Premier Cru that belonged to the monks back in 1170. The vines, around 35 years old on average, are planted at a high density, making for wines of high quality. These 100% Pinot Noir wines are known for their beautiful dark garnet color and their notes of black fruit and ink on the nose. Rich and powerful on the palate, they offer a magnificently long and generous finish. Domaine de la Ferte wines are meant to be aged, developing beautiful in the bottle over the course of a decade or more.

Domaine de la Ferté

This domaine takes its name from the Ferté Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1113 that continues to serve as a spiritual beacon for its followers from the region and all over the world. The monks from this abbey were actually the first ones to cultivate the Givry vineyards, the abbey’s Premier Cru back in the 12th century was called «Em Sarviognenes». It has since been renamed «La Servoisine» under the Domaine de la Ferté. "

Domaine de la Ferté has 6.25 acres, and 2.5 of these acres grow the vines for the most renowed Premier Crus in the appellation. Like the other domaines, there are 10,000 vines for every 2.5 acres, and the average age of the vine is 35-years-old. This density and age guarantees the quality for the domaine’ s wines. Moreover, the terroir in Givry also contributes to the high quality of these wines. The ancient soil consists of clay and limestone. The vines located on the southeast side of the slopes are in a prime location since they get more sunlight, which helps ripens the grapes. From these perfectly ripen grapes, the estate has three flagship wines : the Givry, the Givry «Clos de Mortières», and the Givry 1^er Cru «Servoisine».
