Chateau Haut-Brion
Chateau Haut-Brion was conceived and laid out beginning in 1553 by Jean de Pontac, which makes it the oldest wine estate in Bordeaux. The vineyards of Chateau Haut-Brion are located in the commune of Pessac, just a few miles southwest of Bordeaux’s city center. The First-Growth Chateau Haut-Brion belongs to the appellation of Pessac-Leognan. The vineyard covers an area of 51 hectares (126 acres). Slightly more than 48 ha are planted with red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot).
